Also known as “La Fee Verte” (The Green Lady) or the Green Muse, this alluring emerald green spirit experienced intense popularity in 19th and 20th century Europe, and was enjoyed by the likes of Van Gogh and Aleister Crowley among others. Absinthe was often likened to having the effects of a muse, providing lucid dreams and giving birth to great art. Later, it came to be thought of as a dangerously addictive hallucinogen responsible for madness and murder. Artwork by Corviid.
